I’ve been slinking around the blogging community quite a lot these past few weeks. I haven’t posted for a few weeks while I work on the redesign of my site… yet again.

It’s been an interesting week in the circles I visit online. It’s odd… no, actually, not that odd that when a popular blogger posts about changing their blog for this purpose or that purpose, their post is followed by a half-a-dozen posts mimicking that blogger.

I generally don’t save college emails from those I’m not applying to, but I saved this one because of a phrase within it.

“…it really pays not to settle for “just OK” when Wow is within your reach.”

Wow is within your reach. To every single one of you reading this, wow is within your reach if you stay true to who you are. A blog is made to reflect the personality of the blogger behind it, not the latest trend.
Go for the wow factor, people.

My latest project has been the web design for Bloom! Magazine. About a month ago, I joined their staff as a web designer and I’ve been planning this website transition with KyAnn for a while. It’s finally… almost done.  You can check out the full design here.

Between web design, work, and classes, it’s been crazy. My summer has been like the rest of my school year. But that’s okay. Summer is almost over.
Now it’s crisper out in the mornings. Hurricane Irene seems to have left fall here as she flew by… and I’m perfectly happy with it.

I’m not going to drag this post out forever. I do intend on posting a little more frequently then I have been as of late. As you may have noticed, I’m back to Blogger on this portion of my site, just for developing purposes. I’ll be discussing my web design further… as I finish the main site.
Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Walt Whitman, one of my favorite American poets is quoted as saying “keep your face always toward the sunshine – and the shadows will fall behind you”. We so often concentrate on the drama and negativity certain events or people bring into our lives that we forget to focus on what makes our lives so amazing.

The sunshine.

This is one example of sunshine. Or rather a lazy piece of sunshine, who is currently inhabiting my desk chair. She triumphs in occupying the areas I desert (hence, above – the computer’s place on the desk). I cleaned my room last night, and she found sweater box, which she has formally adopted.

Another piece of sunshine is the fact that I finish drivers ed tomorrow. Finally.

I haven’t really been enjoying that class. I don’t mind the material, but a combination of a lax teacher and high-schoolers who act like middle schoolers is enough to drive me up a wall.

On the bright side, we did watch Mythbusters… multiple times.

My lovely friend Rosiee sent me this hat a few weeks ago.
Another piece of sunshine. And yes, I do wear berets in August, thank you very much. I love them.

What do you do that goes against the flow? More importantly – what’s your sunshine?

This book is interesting. Admittedly, I’m not a huge Jane Austen fan, but I have seen Pride and Prejudice in movie form. This, however, was a great “parody” if you will, of the original book. Elizabeth Bennett is the zombie-killing heroine, and Mr. Darcy is an expert killer as well. The love plotline is about the same as the original, but enhanced by the zombies. (It’s interesting to note that Lady Catherine is supposedly the best zombie killer in all of England. But of course is bested by the heroine in a sparring match. Isn’t that how it always works?)
Flaws: Probably my only peeve with the book was that it portrayed Elizabeth as a perfect zombie fighter, with almost no exceptions. Within the love plot, she had flaws, but within the zombie subplot, there were very few flaws in her character. This kind of annoyed me, since it made the book more mocking of the original and less “realistic” on it’s own. *cough* As if zombies are realistic… but still.

Highlights: The ending of the book made my life. It was well done. The entire book was written in the same style P&P was written in, so it maintained a high quality of elegance. The ending is almost worth the  price of admission.

Lizzy and Mr. Darcy become engaged after their long revelations and professions of love to one another. They then go kill a horde of zombies, who are devouring califlower in the garden (because they look like brains). I loved that so so so much. It’s perfect, and fits with the book.

So yes. 9/10 stars for this book, because it’s kind of absolutely amazing. ;)

Goodnight friends!

So, being the cool person I am (*wink*), I decided to make a video sharing two of the books I’ve read recently. Unfortunately, because of bad lighting and it being late at night, I am not showing *me*. But you can totally hear me whispering into the mic.

And for the record, I am normally far louder, and talk with less “uhm”s and “anddd…”s. ;)

You also might want to know that you’ll probably be seeing these again, unless I get an overwhelming number of “omg we like you better with just text, Amanda!!!!! o.O” (I totally wouldn’t blame you. I have a hard time editing video because I hate watching or listening to myself. Just fyi.)

Good morning, readers! I’m typing this just before I leave for…

1. …drivers ed. This is the first day of actual classes, which will continue on for the next two weeks. I don’t get why we have to have so much classroom time and so little driving time with the instructor. Some things just don’t make sense, do they?

2. This is what I’ve worked on lately, as well as some other web design projects for Blogger. (www.sparklestheunicorn.com) Fact: I love WordPress… so amazingly much. Photobucket

3. I would type out a third, but I’m on a bit of a time crunch. So, farewell for now. Have a wonderful Monday!
